Crested Butte Writers Present ... the Book Lovers Afternoon
We are excited to announce that the traditional Readers in the Rockies Day, a day where readers meet and interact with best-selling guest authors, has been newly expanded to a series throughout the year. Readers are still very much welcomed at the Crested Butte Writers Conference during our Book Lovers Afternoon on Saturday June 23, 2012.

They’ve appeared on best-seller lists, at national awards podiums and at international conferences. Now these authors are coming to Crested Butte, where you’ll have a chance to hear presentations on their books and exchange ideas with them in an intimate setting.

This year the Book Lovers Program is highlighting Emmy award winning journalist and mystery writer, Hank Phillippi Ryan and Nero and Shamus award-winning mystery author, Brad Parks.

Come listen to them discuss their writing process and answer questions readers might have, then there is an opportunity to share a slice of warm pie and cup of coffee with the authors and have your books signed at the Pie In The Sky Book Signing.

Afterwards, you have an opportunity to get an insider’s look into the publishing industry through our First Page Readings, where a panel of agents and editors read the first pages of books submitted by writers attending the writers conference. They react as they would if the book was coming across their desks for acquisition by their company--Would they buy it? Why or why not? And as a bonus to show how subjective the process is, we slip in first pages by famous authors to see how they would fare in today’s market.

In the evening at Readers’ Night, come gather around the fireplace at the Elevation Hotel in a comfy chair or a spot on the floor with a drink to hear authors and Sandy Writing Contest finalists reading their stories in a friendly informal setting.
