  1. Where is the conference held and how do I get there?
  2. The conference is being held at The Lodge at Mountaineer Square, 620 Gothic Rd, Mt. Crested Butte CO 81225, located at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort at the base of the ski mountain. The quaint historic town of Crested Butte lies nestled in a stunning mountain valley, while 3 short miles away is the resort area of Mount Crested Butte. A free bus runs frequently between the two towns.

    The closest airport is just 30 miles away, the Gunnison Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC). Rental vehicles are available at the airport through Avis, Budget, and Hertz. Airport shuttle meets every incoming flight, and offers transportation between the airport, Gunnison, Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte lodging areas. There is a fee for this service, and required reservations can be made by calling Alpine Express at (800) 822-4844 or (970) 641-5074.

  3. Where do I park?
  4. If you are staying anywhere on the mountain, you are probably within easy walking distance to the hotel. If you are driving in each day, parking at the Elevation Hotel is available at an additional cost. There is free parking available on the north side of the Grand Lodge Hotel.

  5. What is the conference attire?
  6. Be comfortable. You are here to explore and expand your writing. There is no need to dress up for workshops and listening to presentations. Pants and jeans are OK, and it is not often warm enough for shorts at 9000 ft, particularly in the evenings when you may want a sweater or light jacket. However, remember that if you have an appointment with agents and editors, you will want to present yourself as a professional. Take a look at past conference pictures.

  7. What meals are included?
  8. 3 hot buffet breakfasts, Friday and Saturday lunches and a selection of pies, tea and coffee at the book signing.

  10. The cost for those wanting to join us just for The Sandy Awards Luncheon is $35.

  11. How can I request a refund for the conference fee?
  12. A $50 cancellation fee will be charged for refund request in writing (email) by April 31. After that, a $75 cancellation fee will be charged. There will be no refunds after June 1. There is a $50 handling fee for returned checks.

  14. Are there activities?
  15. In the summer, we have all the activities you'd expect in a mountain paradise. Mountain biking, hiking, fishing, climbing, horseback riding, wildflowers, river rafting, kayaking, and much more await you. Visit this website for more details.

  16. What about the altitude?
  17. Mount Crested Butte sits at 9,375 feet above sea level. Those coming from lower elevations usually need a day or two to acclimate before exercising strenuously. We advise all visitors to take it easy, avoid alcohol the first day or so, and to drink plenty of water - keeping hydrated helps avoid altitude problems.

  18. Are there Agent Editor appointments?
  19. At the Crested Butte Writers conference we do not offer the traditional scheduled formal pitch appointments with agents and editors because we feel that they are very often unproductive for all concerned. Instead we have a Pitch & Pages opportunity which we believe is a superior means for the discovery of talented authors.
